More than a Minister

Wendell Harris has been an outspoken and dedicated humanitarian throughout his life. A community activist and blue collar worker for more than 40 years, Mr. Harris has worked diligently to improve the social conditions of Milwaukee's inner core. No other proof of his hunger to help the most needy in Milwaukee can be found than his tenure as a consultant and member of Friendship Incorporated, a nonprofit agency focused on repairing damaged lives.

In 1999, the Democratic Socialist Party of Wisconsin nominated Mr. Harris for Mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Although defeated by the incumbent Mayor Norquist, the number of votes given Harris showed him a strong contender for future political office.

Today, Minister Harris sits on two powerful committees. He is current chairman of the Milwaukee chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and chair of Milwaukee’s local Education Committee for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

There can be no clearer picture of Minister Harris’ love for his community than the one found in the news article dated September 2003. Please take a minute to click this underlined link to read it.
